Meanwhile I’m practically sitting on the lap of the guy next to me. Seriously, what is that about?!

Don’t even ask.

But be prepared for disappointment, my friend. It’s rarely a sure thing, and when they do offer an upgrade, the price? Let’s just say it’s often more than I paid for the original ticket!
