Can you have internet without cell service?
Yes! Bypass cable & phone lines with wireless internet. Options include:
- Fixed Wireless: Direct wireless connection to a provider's tower.
- 4G/5G Home Internet: Uses cellular data for home internet.
- Mobile Hotspots: Portable device creating a Wi-Fi network from cellular data.
- Satellite Internet: Connects via satellite for remote areas.
Can I get internet access even without a cellular plan?
Totally. You can absolutely get online without a cell phone plan.
Wireless internet options are plentiful these days. You’ve got fixed wireless, 4G/5G home internet, mobile hotspots, even satellite. Lots to choose from.
I ditched cable back in July ’22. Switched to Starlink. Cost me about $600 for the dish and setup, then $110 a month. Out in rural Montana, it’s been a lifesaver. Before, I was stuck with slow DSL. Streaming was a joke.
Fixed wireless could be another option, depending where you live. A friend in Denver uses it – he’s happy. Never checked pricing, though. Mobile hotspots are okay for travel, but data caps can be brutal. I remember using one from Verizon on a road trip in April ’23. Hit the limit halfway through and had to buy more. Pain. Satellite internet… well, Starlink is pretty good, but the initial cost is steep.
