Vietnam Trip Cost: Whats the Budget?

Okay, lemme tell ya ’bout Vietnam…budget-wise!

A week in Vietnam? Solo? You’re lookin’ at roughly $481. That covers your sleeps, eats, getting around like a local, and seein’ some sights. Two peeps? Double it to $962-ish.

Two weeks? Hmm, $962 for just you. Double it up again for the two of ya, clocking in around $1,924.

Back in 2018, I spent 10 days bouncing around Vietnam, mostly Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. I aimed for a budget of $50 a day. I stayed in hostels mostly around $8-10 in the Old Quarter. Pho bo was a staple, around $1.50 a bowl.

I went to Ha Long Bay for an overnight cruise. Cost me around $100, bartered down from $120, including transport. Worth every penny seeing those limestone karsts.

Is Vietnam expensive to visit?

Vietnam? Expensive? Honey, darling, please! My goldfish, Finnegan, lives more lavishly. He demands imported seaweed.

Vietnam is ridiculously, hilariously cheap. Cheaper than therapy. It’s practically a steal.

Forget pocket change, you’ll need a wheelbarrow for all the dong you’ll save. You could probably buy a small island with the money you don’t spend.

Why so thrifty?

  • Local Production: Think “farm-to-table,” but for everything. Less importing, more doing.
  • Cost of Living: Low, lower, limbo-champion low. Wages are modest. You are practically royalty there.

Here are some Asian budget-friendly adventures, just in case Vietnam becomes too much of a bargain (said no one ever):

  • Laos: Relaxed vibes and gentle prices. Think yoga retreat meets jungle adventure.
  • Cambodia: Temples galore, history deep, wallet happy. Angkor Wat and no financial tears.
  • Nepal: Mountains that touch the sky, and prices that barely touch your bank account. Everest on a shoestring!
  • India: A sensory overload and a financial blessing. Chaos, color, and ridiculously cheap street food.

Frankly, if you find Vietnam expensive, you’re probably doing it wrong. Are you chartering a private jet everywhere? Stop it. Now.
