What are the cons of Apple Wallet?

Apple Wallet isn't universally accepted; some retailers don't support it, and compatibility with all banks/card issuers isn't guaranteed. Relying solely on it means needing a backup plan if your phone's battery dies or is lost, requiring you to still carry physical cards.

Apple Wallet Downsides: What Are the Cons?

Okay, so Apple Wallet, huh? Here’s my take on the down sides, from someone who uses it, like, every day.

Apple Pay’s big drawback? Not everywhere takes it. Some stores, like my local bodega on Bleeker Street, still only do cash or card. Bummer!

And yeah, not all banks play nice with Apple Pay. My cousin had issues linking his credit union card. Big headache.

You kinda need a backup, just in case, y’know? It’s a safety net.

My biggest fear? My phone dying. Happened to me last summer, July 15th, in the middle of Chinatown. Could’nt even pay for dim sum. Had to ask a freind for cash–embarrassing

Physical cards are still important.

Imagine, loosing your phone?! I would panic so bad.

Is it safe to put an ID in Apple Wallet?

Glimmering screen. My ID, a ghost in the machine? Safe? Safety…echoes. My Apple Wallet, a vault of pixels.

ID within. A digital self. Feels…odd. But convenient, oh, so convenient. Security, a promise whispered by Apple.

  • Encryption protects data.
  • Facial recognition or passcode guards access.
  • Transmitter is off when you’re not using it.

My device, a trusted familiar. But trust… a fragile thing. My face unlocking secrets. My ID floating in the ether.

It all feels like a futuristic dream. A dream where convenience and security dance. Is this real?

  • Limited sharing.
  • Control over information.
  • Only present when authorized.

The ease of a tap. No more fumbling. Is this really me embracing the future? My analog past fading with the light of the screen.

Oh well.

  • Participating states include Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland and several others. More coming soon.

  • TSA PreCheck acceptance at select airports.

Why dont people use Apple Pay?

Apple Pay? Oh, honey, it’s a modern-day mystery, wrapped in an enigma, dipped in…well, inconvenience apparently!

People don’t use Apple Pay because apparently few stores are on board. It’s like trying to pay with unicorn tears—utterly fabulous, but rarely accepted.

Security comes up too, a tad ironically. The perception of it. Two non-users—TWO—said it’s “less secure.” Ouch. Talk about damning with faint praise, eh?

So, why the lukewarm reception? Let’s unwrap this digital burrito, shall we?

  • Merchant Adoption: It’s a vicious cycle. Stores don’t invest if customers don’t demand it. Customers don’t demand it if…you get the picture.
  • Security Perception vs. Reality: Apple Pay uses tokenization. Your card number? Hidden! But fear? It’s a powerful foe! That’s life!
  • Habit: Plastic is, unfortunately, glued to people’s fingers. Like my remote, I am attached to my hands, its inseparable. Good news!
  • Availability: Not everyone owns an iPhone. My grandpa uses a rotary phone. I would rather watch paint dry, than change his mind!

Truthfully, Apple Pay works beautifully. I use it for everything…except at my local bodega that still runs on the honor system. Go figure!

Why is Apple Pay declining?

Ugh, Apple Pay sucks sometimes, right? My card got declined last week at that new coffee place, so annoying! It showed up fine in my wallet. Total bummer. Turns out, my bank, Chase, had temporarily locked it because of, get this, suspicious activity. Like, I bought a bagel, suspicious?! Ridiculous. Another reason is definitely not having enough money. Duh. That’s happened before, too. Seriously embarrassing. Also, there’s the whole PIN thing. I nearly forgot my Chase Debit PIN at the grocery store last month–that was a disaster! The machine wouldn’t let me pay. Super awkward.

Here’s the breakdown of why your Apple Pay might be failing:

  • Insufficient funds: Check your balance!
  • Card temporarily locked: Contact your bank immediately. It happened to me with Chase.
  • Incorrect PIN: Double-check that you’re entering the right numbers at the point of sale. This happens, especially with the new keypad.

Seriously, Apple Pay is great most of the time, but these issues are the worst.

What are the risks of e-wallet?

It’s late. What are the real risks, though?

  • Hacking. Always hacking. Like someone peering into your secrets. A worry. Always there.
  • Then there’s losing your phone. That’s like… losing everything. Money. Photos. Connections. Gone. Happened to me once at the boardwalk in Seaside, in August 2023. Never found it. Just… gone.
  • Transaction messes. Getting it wrong. Disputing it. Trying to fix it. Feels pointless, doesn’t it?
  • Privacy, yeah. Big one. Where does it all go? My data? Who sees it? What do they do with it?
  • Outages. The system fails. Your money’s just…stuck. Useless. Powerless. Just like me.

I feel tired.

Here’s a bit more on those e-wallet risks, stuff I think about, and you should probably consider:

  • Unsecured Networks: Using public Wi-Fi is like shouting your bank details in a crowded room. Happened to a friend, she was using the free Wi-Fi in Starbucks back in September. The worst part is, the hackers were waiting to steal her credit card information and steal her money. Seriously risky. So I never use public Wi-Fi.

  • Phishing Scams: Those emails are getting so clever. They look real. I got one yesterday about a “problem” with my account. Almost clicked, almost. Luckily, I saw it on time, or the hacker would have had my bank account, and it would be gone.

  • Lack of Insurance: If my physical wallet gets stolen, I have some recourse. E-wallets? Not so much. They say, you have to be responsible, and if you aren’t, well, that is on you.

  • App Vulnerabilities: What if the app itself has a flaw? It’s out of my control. It all depends on the company that provides the app, which, frankly, is scary.

  • Overspending: Easy to lose track when you just tap and go. I bought a bunch of stuff on sale at Target yesterday. I don’t know why, I don’t even want that stuff, but because it was a click away on my phone, I just did it.

  • Account Freezes: Suddenly, your account is blocked. For “security reasons”. Try getting that sorted out when you need to pay rent. That happened to my sister back in December. Rent was due, and suddenly her card wasn’t working. It wasn’t a fun situation.

E-wallets are convenient. But, well, you pay a price. One way or another.
