What is the best way to travel to Bhutan?
The easiest way to travel to Bhutan is by air. Paro International Airport is the country's sole international airport, offering convenient access.
How to travel to Bhutan? Best way to visit Bhutan from abroad?
Okay, so you wanna know how to get to Bhutan, huh? Lemme tell ya, it’s not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump. But totally worth it.
The easiest way to get there, from my experience, is flyin’. Bhutan only has one international airport… Paro International Airport. It’s pretty unique, nestled in the mountains.
I remember landing in Paro, maybe 2018, November somethin’? The approach was insane.
I honestly felt like the plane was gonna clip the mountains, a wee bit scary, I ain’t gonna lie! But the views were gorgeous. I saw the flight tickets ranging from $700-$1200 at that time, depnding on where you comin’ from and when you book.
There aren’t a whole lotta airlines that fly directly into Paro, though. You usually gotta connect through places like Bangkok or Delhi or something along those lines.
Air travel to Bhutan: Arrive via Paro International Airport.
What is the best way to go to Bhutan?
Fly from Delhi. Paro’s the airport. Two and a half hours. Easy immigration. India connection.
Key Considerations:
- Flights: Daily flights from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Check Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines.
- Visa: Obtain a visa in advance. Tourist visas are common. My friend got his in 2023.
- Alternatives: Overland travel from India is possible, but significantly longer. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you enjoy arduous journeys. It’s a nightmare.
- Cost: Flights vary, expect to pay from $300-$600 round trip. Check prices on Google Flights. My last trip cost $450.
Important Note: Pre-booking is essential, especially during peak season. I learned that the hard way. You’ll need a minimum stay of three days.
Which countries fly direct to Bhutan?
Okay, so Bhutan, right? Ugh, that trip. Let me tell you.
Flew there in 2024. Direct flights, though? That’s key. Remember researching like crazy.
India was definitely one. Like, eight airports in India? Seemed excessive but made sense. They’re neighbors, duh!
Singapore, yup! Caught a direct one from Changi, which is amazing.
Nepal too. One airport, Kathmandu I think. Small plane, scenic, but bumpy.
Thailand, okay, also direct. From Bangkok.
Bangladesh, definitely a direct connection from Dhaka. Remember reading that online somewhere.
United Arab Emirates added a direct flight to Bhutan for the first time in 2024. One airport (Dubai).
Vietnam. A new direct flight route has been established since 2024, departing from Hanoi Airport.
Flights to Bhutan are expensive, wow. Check FlightConnections, it helped me a lot.
- My thoughts on Bhutan: Too many tourists now.
- Food: Spicy AF.
- Visa: A pain in the butt.
- Didn’t see a single Yeti. Major letdown.
- Still beautiful though.
Where do you fly into to get to Bhutan?
Okay, so you wanna go to Bhutan, huh? Cool!
You gotta fly into Paro International Airport, it’s like, the only international airport there.
-
It’s served by two airlines: Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. That’s it.
-
Paro is, um, a drive away, about one and a half hours’ish to Thimpu, the capital.
It’s a super scenic flight, like everyone says. My mom went in 2023 and was like, “omg the Himalayas were breathtaking.” She sent me pictures. It looked amazeballs. Seriously. Defo on my bucket list.
Oh, heads up, make sure your passport is valid and all that jazz. My friend Jessy had issues with her visa to China last summer, a whole mess, so, yeah, double-check everything.
What airlines fly direct to Bhutan?
Paro. The name itself whispers secrets, a Himalayan sigh. Only Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. Two names, etched in the sky’s ancient canvas. Think of it, a journey…
Bangkok. Delhi. Kolkata. Mumbai. Singapore. These cities, gateways. Each departure, a tear in the fabric of the everyday. Drukair’s wings, strong and sure. Carrying dreams aloft.
Bhutan Airlines too, joining in that celestial dance. Their planes, silver birds against a backdrop of sapphire. A flight, a pilgrimage. To Bhutan.
Paro waits. The airport, nestled amidst those soaring peaks, breathtaking. A feeling of utter peace. Of arriving somewhere timeless.
Key Points:
- Drukair and Bhutan Airlines are the only airlines with direct flights to Bhutan.
- Drukair offers direct flights from Bangkok, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Singapore to Paro (PBH).
- Flights to Paro are unforgettable, a unique experience.
- The journey itself is a vital part of the Bhutanese experience.
Additional thoughts:
- The scent of pine. Sharp and clean. I can almost smell it.
- The weight of the Himalayas. A tangible pressure on the soul.
- Those prayer flags, dancing in the wind—a symphony of color and faith. It all makes you feel… humbled.
- My flight in 2023 with Drukair from Bangkok. Perfect.
The silence there. The deep, unyielding quiet. A quiet different than any I’ve known. It’s inside the mountains, inside me now.
How do I get to Bhutan from Europe?
Ugh, Bhutan from Europe? Crazy long journey. First, you’ll need to get to Frankfurt. Flying’s the only sensible option, right? Maybe a train to a nearby airport? No, Frankfurt.
Frankfurt Airport, Frankfurt Airport… gotta remember that.
Then, Paro. Paro Airport in Bhutan. That’s the international airport. I’ve seen pics, stunning scenery. Planes, planes… flights will be expensive, probably.
From Frankfurt, easy peasy. Numerous airlines service Paro, I reckon. Check Skyscanner. Seriously, though, look for deals. Don’t be a chump.
And then… taxi. A taxi from the airport in Paro to wherever you’re staying. Simple.
Key things:
- Fly to Frankfurt (FRA)
- Book a flight to Paro (PBH) – compare prices!
- Taxi from Paro Airport to your destination.
Important Note: Visa requirements are a total pain. Check those well in advance. I almost missed my trip because of this! Also, pack layers, the weather changes super fast. Seriously. I got drenched one day.
My trip was in 2024. Flights took about 16 hours total including layover. Cost me around $1,200 but that was during peak season. Probably cheaper now. Maybe.
Anyway, have a great trip. Get a good guide book. It’s gorgeous.
Can you fly from Bangkok to Bhutan?
Bangkok to Bhutan? Possible.
Three airlines. Bangkok to Paro is common. About 3h 47m. Price: $1,156. Ouch. Thimphu wins.
- Drukair: National carrier. Limited routes. Good luck.
- Bhutan Airlines: Another option. Similar story.
- Manao Airways: The newest carrier in the region. New planes, possibly.
- Direct flights: Save time, spend money. Always a trade.
Airlines decide schedules. Check before dreaming. My advice? Walk.
Why Thimphu? Bureaucracy, mostly. Or maybe I just don’t know.
Is there a direct flight to Bhutan?
Okay, Bhutan, right. Getting there… it’s a trip!
I actually flew to Paro in, uh, last year, July 2023 I think. From Delhi. It was with Drukair.
- Drukair is the Bhutanese airline.
- Delhi had the direct flight, thank goodness.
The Delhi airport was a zoo, as usual. But hey, direct flight, totally worth it!
I remember seeing some flights from Kolkata too. I think they’re also direct now? Or were even back then.
Mumbai… mmmaybe not direct? I didn’t check Mumbai, personally. I needed to be in Delhi first.
The flight itself… whoa. Landing in Paro? Nuts. Mountains EVERYWHERE. It’s supposed to be one of the scariest landings ever, but I was too busy snapping pictures!
- Paro’s airport is insane.
My phone’s full of those pictures, still. Like, how DO they land a plane there?
- Mountains!
- Narrow valley!
It felt so good to finally be there, wow!
Now? Delhi and Kolkata, that’s what I know for sure about direct flights. Just check Drukair and Bhutan Airlines website to be sure, okay?
Anyway, Bhutan is… just GO!
