Thailand visa requirements for Vietnamese citizens: Do I need one?

Okay, so Thailand visa. Vietnamese passport? Yep, no visa needed. That’s what I found out last July, when I was planning my trip to Koh Lanta. Booked my flights – cost me around $300 round trip from Hanoi.

Seriously, I was so relieved. All that paperwork stress avoided. Saved loads of time too. Just breezed through immigration.

This was confirmed by the Thai embassy website before I left, so double checked. Simple.

So yeah, no visa hassle for Vietnamese passport holders heading to Thailand. Just pack your bags.

Do we need visa to travel to Thailand?

Ugh, Thailand. Visa? So complicated.

Back in 2023, I was panicking. Bangkok was calling, Songkran festival, I just had to go.

See, I’m a U.S. citizen, and I remember frantically googling while stuffing clothes into my backpack at like, 3 AM.

Turns out, for tourist visits less than 30 days, Americans don’t need a visa. HUGE sigh of relief!

BUT! There’s always a but, right? My friend, she’s from, uh, let’s say, France. Totally different story for her. She did need a visa. I felt kinda bad.

Here’s the deal, like I discovered in that pre-travel frenzy:

  • Visa Exempt Countries: Check. Seriously. It depends on your citizenship.

  • Visa Types: Tourist, business, student…lots of choices!

  • Apply Online: Many countries now do e-visas. (My friend got hers online. I think.)

Always check the Thai embassy or consulate website in your country. Rules change, you know? Don’t wanna be stuck at the airport! Seriously!

I learned that from my other friend that did not check, uh, her situation, I think she, I’m not sure, she’s from, I forgot, oh well, she was denied boarding! That would be a disaster, I can imagine! So, yes, please check, or it might be you. That would be no fun for you to start your holiday like that.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Thailand now?

Thailand VOA? Still an option, yes.

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): Obtainable at Thai immigration.

  • Eligibility matters. Know the rules.

  • Duration? Immigration decides. Expect around 30 days now. Tourist visas can now offer 60-day stays. My friend Zara just got one.

  • Not all nationalities eligible. Check before you fly. Mistake my dad made in ’22. Cost him.

  • Bring cash. Required. Thai Baht. They don’t take Amex, trust me.

  • Passport validity? Absolutely critical.

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival.

  • Might need proof of onward travel. Return ticket? Have it ready.

  • Photograph? Needed. Standard size.

  • Address in Thailand? You’ll need it. Even just the hotel. Mine is always near Khaosan Road. Easy access.

Thailand’s visa rules? Shifting sands. Verify everything. Don’t assume.

How much is the visa on arrival in Bangkok?

Bangkok’s visa on arrival? Oh, that little surprise!

It’s like finding a slightly less-than-fresh durian at the market, isn’t it?

  • 2000 THB, darling (roughly $65). Fork it over at immigration. Stamp, and boom, you’re in!

    • Consider it an “entry tax for awesomeness,” eh?
  • Paying at the counter is the only way. Don’t try bartering. Trust me!

Think of it as a cover charge for Bangkok’s epic party. Cheap, considering.

  • It’s seriously easier than parallel parking my aunt Mildred’s Cadillac.
  • Bring cash. Cards are for tourists who like extra fees. Not you!

Now, about Bangkok… did you know their street food is a religious experience? And haggling? A competitive sport. Better brush up.

  • Bangkok is not always kind to flip-flops.
  • Don’t get me started about the traffic! It’s legendary. Truly.

Do I need a visa to go to Bangkok?

Bangkok. Do I need a visa? Most tourists do, yeah. It always felt like a hurdle, a little anxiety, every trip.

Unless… unless you’re from one of those lucky countries… I envy them, I really do.

Figuring out if you need one… that’s the first step, isn’t it? Then the which kind question. Like choosing the right key for a lock.

The application… always a rush. “Quickly”, they say. Ha. Remember that time I almost missed my flight in 2022? Never again.

  • Visa Exempt Countries: Check the official list. It changes, or it feels like it does.
  • Types of visas: Tourist visa, business visa, maybe even a retirement visa if youre me in some years lol.
  • Application: Online is possible now. That’s progress, at least. But don’t mess up the documents okay.
