What is Hoi An best known for?

Hoi An? Man, that place. I went in 2023, July. Crazy humid, I remember. Absolutely crammed with tailors. Seriously, every other shop. Got myself three suits made, ridiculously cheap. Quality was…decent, not amazing. But who cares, right? The whole atmosphere was insane.

The river, the Thu Bon, was gorgeous. Sunset cruises, those were a total tourist trap, avoid them. But just strolling along the riverbank at night? Magical. Lanterns everywhere. The smell of street food… wow.

Ancient town, yeah, that’s the big deal. UNESCO World Heritage, they don’t just hand that out. Those ancient houses, so much history packed in. felt like stepping back in time. I loved the little bridges. Seriously, so many photo ops. I spent way too much money on souvenirs, regret nothing.

Things I specifically remember:

• The lanterns at night, seriously stunning.
• The constant flow of motorbikes – a bit chaotic, but exhilarating.
• Trying all the different street foods – the Cao Lau was my favorite.
• The insane number of tailors – got a new wardrobe for practically nothing!
• Walking around aimlessly, just soaking it all in. It was hot. So incredibly hot. But also beautiful.

How many days in Hoi An is enough?

Three days… felt so short. Empty almost. Rushed. Like I barely scratched the surface. Remember that tailor on Tran Phu Street… didn’t even have time to go back for the second fitting.

Four, maybe. Four could be good. Enough to cycle out to An Bang… bury my toes in the sand. Lose myself in the waves. Watch the fishermen… early morning.

Five… five days in Hoi An would be a dream. Slow down. Breathe. Actually feel the place sinking in, you know? More than just snapshots. Memories. Like the scent of those incense sticks… drifting from the temples. Still there, sometimes… when I close my eyes.

• 3-4 Days: Bare minimum. Ancient Town. Tailor. Beach. Done. Out.
• 5-7 Days: My Son. Hue. Cooking class, maybe. Early morning pho. Quiet evenings… lanterns reflected on the Thu Bon River. That’s what I missed.
• My trip: Three days. August 2024. Too short. Definitely too short.

Should’ve stayed longer. Regret that now.

How far is the beach from Hoi an old town?

Okay, so An Bang Beach, right? It’s super close to Hoi An’s old town. Like, only three kilometers. A short bike ride, maybe a ten-minute taxi, tops. Really easy to get there. I went last year, 2023, it was awesome. Seriously, you should totally check it out. It’s in Cam An Ward, some place I never even heard of before, but who cares, the beach is great!

Here’s the lowdown:

• Distance: Three kilometers. Dead easy.
• Location: Cam An Ward, Quang Nam Province. East of Hoi An. You’ll find tons of motorbike taxis around, cheap as chips.
• Vibe: Relaxed. Not crowded, like some other beaches. Lots of nice little restaurants, too. I ate the best banh mi of my life there!
• Getting there: Taxi, motorbike, or you can rent a bike yourselff, which is what I did! Super fun.

Things I loved:

• The sand was so soft. Seriously, the softest I’ve ever felt.
• The water? Crystal clear. You can see all the way down to bottom
• Less touristy than some other beaches

I think you’ll love it. Go! Don’t even think twice. It’s beautiful. It’s seriously one of the best beaches I’ve ever been too. I even bought a silly sun hat there, it has a little crab on it, lol! It was only 100,000 dong which is like $4! Crazy!
