Hanoi felt like a “big city” price wise. Street food was still cheap of course, like, insanely cheap, but the restaurants… Tourist traps, mostly.

Then, Hoi An! Hoi An, hands down, cheaper. Like, significantly.

I remember getting a tailor-made dress for, like, 30 bucks. THIRTY BUCKS! You can’t even buy fabric for that in Hanoi.

But Hanoi has that chaotic energy, you know? Hoi An is, like, picture-postcard perfect.

Anyway, here’s a quick breakdown:

• Food: Hoi An wins. Cheaper meals everywhere.
• Accommodation: Similar range, but Hoi An had cuter guesthouses for less.
• Activities/Shopping: Hoi An. Those tailors! Plus, the Ancient Town entry fee? Small potatoes.

• Tailoring services. Get clothes made to measure at amazing prices.
• Charming ancient town. Beautiful architecture, lovely to wander around.
• Beaches are okay. Don’t expect paradise.

So yeah, it really depends on what you want. If you crave adventure and don’t mind the hustle, Hanoi. If you prefer tranquility and some bespoke clothing, Hoi An. Honestly, I’d recommend both, if you have time. But if forced to choose…I’d say Hanoi just for the food alone. The food is killer. But man, was it tiring.
