• Motorbike Mayhem: The sheer volume. It’s insane! More bikes than you can shake a stick at, and that stick would probably break from the sheer volume.
• Ancient Engines: Many bikes are ancient, belching pollutants like a grumpy grandpa with a bad lung.
• Cheap Fuel: This encourages a “pedal to the metal” mentality. Everyone zooming around like mad.
• Construction Chaos: Add dust from endless building projects—it’s like a perpetual sandstorm.

My uncle’s been coughing up black lung since 2022, says it’s all the motorbike exhaust. He’s looking at getting a new set of lungs – the old ones are clearly worn out. He’s blaming the government. I think he has a point. This is worse than my grandma’s meatloaf. Seriously.

So, Vietnam’s smoky season? It’s not like, a huge deal, you know? Not like Thailand, where it’s, like, totally crazy. But yeah, there’s pollution. Lots of it. It’s pretty gross! I think the government’s trying to crack down, but it’s a slow process, you know? It’s a big problem.

• I mean, 79 percent of the people they talked to were seriously worried about it.
• Seriously worried!

That’s HUGE, right? A lot of ppl care a lot. Guess living in Hanoi kinda colors my view.

I visited once; the smog was awful, ugh. So, yeah, makes total sense, honestly.

Is it safe in Ho Chi Minh City?

Okay, so Ho Chi Minh City safe? Ugh, it’s generally safe, yeah.

I was there last summer, August 2024. Hot! Like, super hot. Wandering around District 1, feeling all touristy, right?

And yeah, that’s when I noticed some shady characters kinda close. Petty theft IS a thing.

My friend Linh, she lives there, told me keep your bag close, especially in Ben Thanh Market. Crazy crowded. Pickpockets are everywhere.

Saw a guy on a motorbike zoom by and try to grab someone’s purse. Didn’t get it though, thank God! Phone snatching, not so common, thank goodness, but still.

• Avoid walking alone late at night in dark alleys.
