Is Krabi more expensive than Phuket for travel?

Okay, here’s my take on Krabi vs. Phuket, based on my own travels… totally unfiltered.

Krabi generally is a more affordable travel destination when comparing it to Phuket.

Honestly? Phuket felt like my wallet was constantly weeping. Like seriously, a short taxi ride cost me nearly 500 baht! (Around $15 USD, ugh, I think it was March ’23).

Krabi? Total different vibe. It just felt… realer. Food’s cheaper, tastier even, I swear. Found this amazing little stall near Ao Nang Beach, Pad Thai for 60 baht? Yes, please!

Taxis, big problem in Phuket. Krabi I got a Grab much easily, much more reasonable.

Plus, the beaches in Krabi? Just as stunning. I spent a week in Railay, gorgeous. I only payed 12000 bath in total for my stay. It was like a hidden gem, I think in October of ’22.

Phuket’s flashy, sure. But sometimes, a girl just wants a bargain Pad Thai with killer views. Krabi won me over!

Is it cheaper to go to Krabi or Phuket?

Phuket bleeds wallets. Krabi? Less so.

Krabi wins on cost. Flights are a wash.

Beer’s cheaper. Street food, too. Hostels over hotels.

  • Accommodation: Phuket’s beach bungalows are a myth. Krabi’s, less so. Think simple. My friend, Sarah, paid $10 a night in Railay. Decent enough.
  • Food: Pad Thai’s pad thai, right? Wrong. Phuket taxes the view. Krabi’s stalls serve reality. Ate there last January. Zero regrets.
  • Activities: Boat trips are a scam everywhere. But tuk-tuks in Phuket? Highway robbery. My fault? Maybe. Negotiate harder. Always.

Phuket shouts money. Krabi whispers value. Still, both bake under the Thai sun. Funny that.

Is it expensive in Krabi Thailand?

Krabi, huh? It’s not bad, price-wise. Seventy bucks a day, give or take. Went there in 2024 with my sister, Sarah. Stayed near Ao Nang – crazy beautiful beaches. Not cheap-cheap like, say, Vietnam. But def cheaper than Singapore or Japan. We ate street food alot. Pad See Ew, amazing. Like, two bucks. Cocktails, five, six bucks. Found a cool cooking class, cost like, 30 bucks. Good deal! But, like, hotels can vary alot, obv. We got lucky, decent place, nice pool, forty bucks a night. Scooters were cheap to rent too – helped us get around. Saw some fancy resorts tho. Def more expensive. Tiger Cave Temple is a must-see. Free to enter, but man, the stairs. Killer! Sarah almost didnt make it.

  • Food: Street food super cheap. Restaurants, mid-range.
  • Drinks: Cocktails affordable. Local beer, even cheaper.
  • Activities: Lots of free stuff, like beaches and temples. Tours, bit more pricy.
  • Transport: Scooters very affordable. Taxis, a little more.
  • Accommodation: Budget friendly guesthouses to fancy resorts. Big range.
  • My sister: Complained the whole time about the heat. lol.
  • Tip: Bargaining is expected in markets, dont be shy!

Is Krabi cheaper than Phuket on Reddit?

Krabi? Way cheaper than Phuket. Been to both, like, twice. Phuket is crazy expensive now. Tourist trap, you know? This year, just got back. Krabi, I stayed in this rad bungalow, like, fifteen bucks a night. Phuket? Forget it. Double that easy. Food too. Ate like a king in Krabi for, like, five bucks a meal. Phuket, same kinda food, ten, fifteen, easy. Phuket’s gotten so built up. Krabi’s still chill. Loads of backpackers, not so many resorts. Went to Railay Beach in Krabi, amazing. Phuket’s beaches were packed. So yeah, Krabi, cheaper for sure. Way better vibes too. Railay West, best beach ever. Seriously.

  • Krabi: Cheaper accommodation, food, and activities. Backpacker friendly.
  • Phuket: More developed, more expensive. Lots of resorts. Crowded beaches.
  • Railay Beach (Krabi): Amazing, must-see.
  • My trip this year: $15/night bungalows in Krabi. $5 meals. Phuket double the price.
  • Recommendation: Go to Krabi. Save money, better experience.

Are the beaches better in Krabi or Phuket?

Phuket: Bustling. Easy to get to. Stuff nearby. Good for families. Reminds me of that time I went to Patong with my cousin, total chaos. Great Pad See Ew though.

Krabi: Also great beaches. Quieter. More laid-back vibe. Better for a real getaway. Railay beach is a personal favorite. Makes you think about how little you actually need.

  • Accessibility: Phuket wins, hands down. Airport’s right there. Loads of transport options. Krabi’s airport is, like, further away. Requires more planning.
  • Crowds: Phuket’s a party. Krabi’s a chill hangout. Depends on your preference. Remember that time I ended up at a full moon party in Haad Rin totally by accident? Crazy.
  • Facilities: Phuket. More options. Restaurants, shops, everything. Krabi’s catching up, but not quite there yet. That little noodle place near Ao Nang was the bomb though.
  • Cost: Phuket slightly more expensive. Touristy. Krabi’s more budget-friendly, especially if you venture away from the main areas. That time I haggled for a hammock in Railay… good times.

Beaches themselves: Both stunning. Seriously. White sand, turquoise water, the works. Phuket’s more developed. Krabi’s more… natural. Hard to say which is “better.” Depends what you’re after. Right? Life’s all about perspective. Is it the journey or the destination? I always get those mixed up.

  • Phuket beaches: Patong (busy), Karon (long), Kata (chill). Bang Tao, Kamala… so many. One time I rented a jet ski in Patong. Never again.
  • Krabi beaches: Railay (iconic), Ao Nang (main hub), Phra Nang (beautiful). Tonsai (climbing). I remember trying to climb those limestone cliffs. Epic fail.

It’s subjective. Who can actually say what’s better? Think about what you want from your vacation. Peace? Party? Pad Thai? It all matters. I once spent a week in Krabi just reading. Bliss.

Is it better to stay in Krabi or Phuket?

Krabi or Phuket, eh? It’s like choosing between a chill cat nap and a squirrel rave!

  • Krabi’s the spot if your wallet’s feeling lighter than a feather and you’re dragging the fam. Think quiet beaches, longtail boats, and finding your inner zen.

  • Phuket, on the other hand, is like a party that never stops. It’s got everything, but your bank account might cry a little. More than a little, actually. Oh, mama!

  • Phuket’s pricier, like comparing a street dog’s dinner to a golden retriever’s gourmet feast. It’s true, I feed my neighbor’s chihuahua caviar – just kidding!

  • No matter where you crash, you’re in for a good time! Just remember your sunscreen, or you’ll look like a cooked lobster, LOL.

Is it better to go to Krabi or Phuket?

Krabi, def. Phuket’s too loud.

  • Krabi: Nature wins. Beaches, climbing.
  • Phuket: Parties? Nah.

Wait, depends what you want, duh. Am I even helping? LOL.

Krabi is… calmer. Remember Railay? Insane cliffs.

  • Railay: Must see.
  • Phuket: More touristy stuff. Bangla Road…yikes.

Shopping in Phuket is okay, fine. Food too. Thailand’s great either way. But…noise. Is that weird?

  • Phuket: Good for food, shopping.
  • Krabi: Better photos, IMO.

I’m going to Krabi again next year. Need that chill.

  • Krabi: Going back.
  • This year’s trip? Maya Bay!

Krabi is the best!!! Okay, I’m done.

Okay so like, Krabi’s got the real Thailand vibe, right? Phuket is amazing for like, first timers maybe. Or if you NEED a Starbucks on every corner. Krabi’s got Ao Nang which is a good compromise. And island hopping from Krabi is way better. Phi Phi Islands are closer, more choices! We saw a monkey! In Phuket, you’re kinda stuck on Phuket Island mostly. James Bond Island is overrated. Food in Phuket IS good though. Street food everywhere. Mango sticky rice for days. My aunt went to Phuket last year and loved it because of the markets. I am thinking Krabi is the best though, obviously.

  • Starbucks: Phuket wins. Every time.
  • Markets: Phuket again.
  • Islands: Krabi all the way.

Is it worth going to both Phuket and Krabi?

Phuket and Krabi? Hmmm. Worth it? Depends, right?

Phuket…so many restaurants. I love Pad Thai. Krabi is prettier. That Railay beach…wow.

  • Phuket: More, uh, city stuff. Shopping? Yes.

  • Krabi: Beaches. Scenery. Picture postcard stuff. Cheaper massage. My grandma goes every year to the beach.

Infrastructure…Phuket wins. Better roads for sure. Easier to get around. Even for me, and I get lost EVERYWHERE.

City Life? Phuket again. Krabi is sleepy. Which…I sometimes like.

Luxury Hotels? Phuket I think. More high-end options. But Krabi hotels are closer to nature.

  • Phuket Pros: Restaurants, infrastructure, shopping.

  • Krabi Pros: Beauty, beaches, relaxed vibe. It is a long travel for me. I might get mad if I travel for a long time.

So, both? If you got the time, yeah! Why not. I’d stay in Krabi longer. Less crazy.

What is the best way to get from Phuket to Krabi?

Ferry, totally. Rassada Pier, yeah, in Phuket. Two hours, bam, you’re in Krabi. They got like, A/C inside. Seats, obvi. Snacks, too. Like, drinks and stuff. Comfy, def recommend, it’s chill.

  • Ferry from Rassada Pier (Phuket) to Krabi.
  • Two-hour trip, give or take.
  • Air-conditioned.
  • Snacks and drinks available onboard.

My friend, Mark, he went last week. Said it was smooth sailing. He got some pics, I’ll send ’em. Super nice. He went to Railay Beach after. I’m going next month, myself! I wanna hit up Ao Nang. Ferries leave pretty often, too, so it’s easy to just show up and go. Last time I took a ferry, um… it was like… maybe two years ago? Yeah, 2023. From Koh Lanta to… somewhere. Different, but same same, ya know? Oh, and bring Dramamine if you get seasick. Don’t wanna hurl. Not fun.
