The oldest Royal Caribbean ship still sailing is Grandeur of the Seas. Launched in 1996, this Vision-class vessel is also Royal Caribbean's smallest, a contrast to their newer, larger ships.

Oldest Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Sailing?

Okay, so oldest Royal Caribbean ship? Grandeur of the Seas. Built 1996. That’s what I found.

Seriously, it’s tiny compared to the behemoths they build now. I saw her docked in Miami last July, looked like a toy beside the Wonder of the Seas.

Remember seeing pics online years ago, before my cruise on the Navigator of the Seas in 2018. It was a smaller ship, but still seemed pretty huge back then.

Grandeur? Yeah, she’s ancient in cruise ship years. She’s a relic, a historical artifact sailing the seas. A real blast from the past.

What Royal Caribbean ship is coming out in 2025?

Ugh, 2025 feels like forever away, but I saw something about a Royal Caribbean ship, the Star of the Seas. Launching August 31st, 2025, from Port Canaveral. Seven-night cruises, right? Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. That’s awesome!

Seriously considering booking a trip. My friend went to Cozumel last year and raved about it. Beautiful beaches, great snorkeling. The whole trip sounded amazing. I need a vacation. Badly.

St. Kitts and San Juan? I’ve always wanted to go to San Juan. I’ve read so many great reviews. The architecture, the food. Yeah, I’m sold. This ship sounds perfect.

Port Canaveral is a bit of a haul for me (I’m in Atlanta), but it’s worth it. I’ll need to check flight prices. Probably book early, too, you know, for the best deals. Plus, I want a balcony cabin. Definitely a balcony.

I’m checking out the Royal Caribbean website later today. Gotta see those cabin details. And the price, of course. My wallet’s crying already, lol.

  • Ship: Star of the Seas
  • Launch Date: August 31, 2025
  • Departure Port: Port Canaveral
  • Itinerary: 7-night Eastern/Western Caribbean cruises
  • Destinations: St. Kitts, San Juan, Cozumel, and others.
  • My Priority: Balcony cabin. Must have a balcony.

What is the first Royal Caribbean cruise ship?

The Song of Norway, launched in 1970, holds the distinction of being the maiden vessel for Royal Caribbean. Funny enough, it feels like a name straight from a travel brochure, doesn’t it?

Royal Caribbean’s origins trace back to 1968, a collaborative effort of Norwegian shipping giants:

  • Anders Wilhelmsen & Company
  • I.M. Skaugen & Company
  • Gotaas Larsen

A fascinating confluence, really. It speaks to the inherent human desire to explore, even through strategic corporate alliances.

It begs the question, did they envision what Royal Caribbean would become? I wonder. I always find myself thinking about these “beginnings” and how often the final result surprises the originators. I bet they didn’t imagine ships with rock climbing. Wow.

Has the Independence of the Seas been refurbished?

Okay, so, the Independence of the Seas? Yeah, it got a big makeover back in April 2018. I remember my cuz talking about it.

They, like, added more rooms, which is always good. More people, more money, right?

And get this, they put in a trampoline park, like, on a ship! First of its kind, they reckon. Laser tag too!

Plus, water slides! Whoa! Talk about fun in the sun, eh? And, oh yeah, a escape room designed with Puzzle Break, which is a cool touch I think.

Oh and it hosts that crazy 70000 Tons of Metal music fest every year. Metalheads go wild. Wild, I’m telling you. My buddy went this year, and said it was insane. He saw some band.

So yeah, refurbished! Big time. They didn’t hold back if you ask me.

What are the point levels for Royal Caribbean?

Loyalty. You earn it.

  • Gold: 3-29 points. Mere start.
  • Platinum: 30-54. Noticeable, perhaps.
  • Emerald: 55-79. A flicker of recognition.
  • Diamond: 80-174. Noted.
  • Diamond Plus: 175-699. Dedicated, fine.
  • Pinnacle Club: 700+. Elite. Everything? Not really.

Will there be a 7th Oasis class ship?

Nah, a seventh Oasis-class behemoth? Forget about it. 2028’s a pipe dream. Unless they’re building it out of pixie dust and unicorn tears. Seriously, though, there’s no official word.

But, here’s the lowdown on these floating cities:

  • First-gen: Think clunky, charming grandpa.
  • Oasis Plus (second-gen): Like grandpa got a facelift. Still grandpa, but spiffier.
  • Oasis Ultra (third-gen): Grandpa’s reincarnated as a sleek, space-age speedboat. A total upgrade!

Royal Caribbean’s got bigger fish to fry than another gargantuan cruise ship. Building one costs a gazillion dollars, more than my apartment building, probably. Plus, the environmental impact? Yikes. It’s like adding another small country to the planet’s carbon footprint. That’s a bit nuts, right? Think of the fuel! Enough to power a small city.

My uncle, who works (sort of, he mostly sits and watches whales) for a cruise line rival, says they are focusing on smaller, more eco-friendly ships. You know, the kind you could, theoretically, actually park. They’re also planning on these weird underwater hotels, sounds crazy. This year, everyone’s going gaga for those, not another gigantic floating mall. Seriously, who needs a seventh?
