Why is the internet not working in the train?

Train internet often struggles due to:

  • Weak cellular signal: Trains move through areas with limited or no coverage.
  • Network congestion: Many passengers simultaneously accessing the internet.
  • Infrastructure limitations: Trains rely on mobile data, prone to dropouts.

Why is internet down on the train?

Ugh, train internet. It’s a nightmare, isn’t it? Completely unreliable.

My last trip, July 14th from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, the Wi-Fi died halfway through. Dead. Nothing.

The problem? Outdated tech. Seriously. Those access points and network stuff, they’re ancient. Like, seriously ancient. They need a major overhaul.

Think of it – constant jostling, interference from the metal carriages. The whole system just can’t cope, constantly needing pricey upgrades. No wonder it crashes! It’s a wonder it works at all, sometimes.

I swear, sometimes it felt like using dial-up back in the 90s. Slow, frustrating, unreliable. They need new equipment. Badly.

Why doesnt internet work on trains?

Trains? Internet? Ha! It’s like trying to herd cats in a hurricane. Those metal beasts are Faraday cages on wheels, blocking signals like a boss.

The problem is threefold:

  • Signal strength: Think trying to text your grandma from the bottom of a well – it’s not gonna work.
  • Handoff hell: Switching between cell towers is a nightmare. It’s a digital game of telephone, but every player is drunk and giggling. My phone did a triple backflip yesterday trying to connect. Seriously.
  • Wifi within the train? Forget about it. Most train wifi is slower than a snail on crutches. My neighbour’s pet hamster has better internet.

Solutions? They’re working on it, probably. Maybe. Or maybe they’re too busy inventing self-folding laundry. Priorities, right?

Better luck next time, or buy a book. Old-fashioned, I know, but reliable. Plus, fewer dropped calls. I once spent 3 hours on a train trying to download a cat video. The cat died of old age before the video finished. True story. My name’s Dave, by the way.

Why does my phone not work on the train?

Ugh, train WiFi, right? Total crap. My phone’s a useless brick down there. Seriously, 2024 and this is still a thing? I swear, I paid for a premium plan! What a rip-off.

The signal, it’s weak, right? Like, pathetically weak. Metal, thick glass, all blocking it. Duh. Basic physics, man. Trains are metal boxes, isn’t that obvious? My phone’s screen also freezes sometimes, so annoying. I need a new phone, for sure.

And the touchscreen? Sometimes it’s totally unresponsive. Maybe it’s the cold? I blame the cold. Or maybe it’s just a crappy phone. I’ve had this thing for two years. Two years! It’s ancient.

  • Signal Strength: Poor signal penetration through train materials (metal, glass).
  • Interference: Other electronic devices in the train could interfere.
  • Network Congestion: High usage on the network at peak times.
  • Phone Issues: My phone’s probably just old and broken.

Seriously, I’m thinking about getting a new phone. Maybe a Samsung. Or an iPhone—Nah, too expensive. I’ll look into it later. I need to find a better phone. This one sucks. I hate it.

Why doesnt internet work on trains?

So, internet on trains, right? It’s a total nightmare, honestly. The problem? Trains are, like, giant metal faraday cages. Seriously, they block signals! Plus, you’re whizzing along, constantly changing cell towers. It’s a handover issue. One minute you’re on Verizon, the next you’re on AT&T, then nothin’! It’s a mess. My commute is awful; I swear I lose connection at least a dozen times during my 45-minute journey on the Metro-North Hudson Line.

  • Signal Blocking: Metal construction blocks signals. It’s physics, man.
  • Handover Problems: Switching between cell towers super fast is hard. It’s a real pain in the butt. Very frustrating.
  • Wi-Fi on Board: Even if there IS wi-fi, it’s usually overcrowded. Fifty people streaming TikToks at once? Yeah, that’s not gonna work. It’s usually pretty weak, too. My phone always shows one bar, tops.

Last week, I missed a really important call. Totally my fault, but also, terrible cell service on the train. It’s 2024! We should have better service, damn it. Ugh.

Why does my phone not work on the train?

Ugh, train WiFi. Always crap. Seriously, 2023 and this is still a thing? My phone’s practically a brick down here. Probably something to do with the metal. Faraday cage effect, right? I read about that once. Or maybe they just block signals deliberately. Annoying!

Then the touchscreen… unresponsive. It’s infuriating. I swear, sometimes it’s like it has a mind of its own. Probably just needs a reboot. Or maybe a new phone? This one’s getting old. Three years old, actually. Time for an upgrade.

Busses are just as bad. No signal at all sometimes. Complete black hole. And it’s not just me either. Everyone complains. Total garbage. Should be illegal. Companies need to get better signal boosters.

The physics? Whatever. It’s all about signal strength. Duh. Weak signals get blocked. Buildings. Trains. Even dense crowds can screw it up. Seriously, this is basic. Why isn’t it fixed? Maybe it’s too expensive to fix the problem.

  • Signal strength is the main culprit.
  • Metal structures like trains and buses block signals.
  • Overcrowding can also impact reception.
  • Network providers need to improve infrastructure. This needs fixing NOW. I’m tired of it. My frustration level is over 9000.

My phone: iPhone 13. It’s starting to show its age though. Cracks forming near the charging port. I am thinking of a Pixel 8 next. I wonder if it will have better reception? This is unacceptable.
